What to tell a cleaner about a pet accident on an area rug
The location and depth of the accident matter. Surface cleaning may not address the backing, pad or floor.

Describe what happened
Tell us approximately when the accident occurred, whether it happened more than once and which parts of the rug are affected. Mention any sprays, powders or rented-machine treatments already used. Avoid combining products or continuing to soak the area while waiting for advice. If you can safely photograph the backing without spreading moisture or moving heavy furniture, that can help the assessment.
Think beyond the visible mark
A small mark on the face can have a larger affected area beneath it. Contamination may reach the backing, pad or flooring, so cleaning the visible fibers alone may not resolve an odor. This does not mean the whole rug always needs replacement. It means the source needs to be considered before someone promises a result from a photograph.
Agree a realistic scope
Ask which parts can be treated and what remains outside the service. Tell us about delicate fibers, color changes or damage you can already see. We do not guarantee complete stain or odor removal.
